Dirty Laundry

When we live our daily lives, we naturally need to do laundry. If you're a homemaking, homesteading mom like me, you probably have at least a load or two each and every day. At first thought it's easy to just go to the laundry aisle at the grocery or big box stores and simply grab what's on sale. But I'm here to warn you not to. Why? What’s wrong with common laundry soap? 

Believe it or not many toxic chemicals are designed to stick on to your clothes so that your clothes remain smelling good. Since the fabric of our clothes and sheets touches our skin all day and night long our bodies are constantly exposed to and absorb these yucky ingredients!

What’s so bad with laundry detergent? A few culprits are (there are more):

1. The phthalates in the fragrance you inhale and absorb. These are endocrine disruptors.

2. VOCs emitted by them. Vocs are volatile organic compounds that easily become vapors or gases.

3. 1,4-dioxane a byproduct of certain chemicals. The EPA has classified 1,4-dioxane as a Group B2, probable human carcinogen. 

4. Artificial dyes

5. SLES - can sometimes have the by product 1,4 dioxane.

Harmful ingredients in laundry products, like these,  will exaggerate and irritate sensitive skin even further and can harm the gut microbiome. It has also been found that besides the common reactions such sneezing, wheezing, rashes, itchy skin, that 35% of people experience migraines from their fragrances!
