Today, after his morning antibiotics, they let us outside! We went for a big walk to our favourite cafe and had a lovely breakfast date together. After not eating much in the hospital for the past week and a half it was great to see his appetite was still there. We sat and talked and enjoyed a weird piece of “normal” in the midst of a hospital admission.
After breakfast we had plenty of time left before we needed to get back for more antibiotics, so we walked a few blocks to one of our favourite health food stores. I picked up a few supplements to support his detox pathways (activated charcoal, and milk thistle), and he chose a few healthy treats. Then we headed back to the hospital.
Once there we had a visit from the physiotherapist. He did an assessment on Lochlan and overall it’s just a lot of muscle loss and atrophy from months of immobility and being bedridden. He gave us some leg strengthening exercises that I already had him doing at home, and suggested that we continue to hold his hand when walking anywhere so he has something to steady him while he rebuilds the muscles in his legs and feet.
The doctor came to visit and let us know they stopped one of the antibiotics so instead of a 3 hour infusion every 6 hours, he now just gets a 2 hour infusion. His blood counts are doing well. His neutrophils went up 200 in a day so he, thankfully, is not longer neutropenic. Tomorrow will be his last three doses of antibiotics (6 a.m., 12 p.m., and 6 p.m.), thankfully. Then it’ll be up to me to rebuild his gut microbiome with high quality probiotics and fermented foods, bone broth and raw milk.
We had a rest filled afternoon binge watching a tv show together and played some puzzle/mindteaser games together.
Mitch and Luke dropped by to give us supper and visit before they headed to fencing. It’s been a lot for Mitch to juggle … keeping the house clean, doing laundry, making meals, taking care of the farm (he took a few lambs to the butcher yesterday), chauffeuring Luke, and working a full time job. I can’t wait to be home to help carry the load. 2 more sleeps!
